FUTSAL SQUADS SELECTED FOR FOXTEL VICTORIAN STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS - 26 JUNE 2006
Monash City has selected 2 futsal squads to participate at the Foxtel State Junior Championships. The Championship acts as a showcase of junior futsal talent and forms an integral part of the talent identification pathway for promising futsal players within Victoria. Accordingly State and Development coaches will be in attendance at the Championships to begin the identification process for the Victorian futsal state squads.
Futsal is a style of indoor soccer played on hard courts without boundary walls. The ball is specially made not to bounce very high and requires close control technique. It was developed in Brazil and is the only form of indoor football recognised by FIFA. There are international rules that apply to how the game is conducted. Former Melbourne Victory player, Ricky Diaco (now at Bulleen), has played futsal for Australia. It has taken off around the world in the last 5 years.
The competition will be held on Monday 26th June at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. Teams will compete in a round robin format with finals to be played on the same day.
