Monash City junior teams have performed well across all age groups, although unfortunately this year we did not secure a championship.

The U11 Joeys finished runners-up in their league. This is a remarkable effort given the team is an U10 squad and has been playing a year up to prepare them for the U11 Kangaroos qualifying competition next season. Our U11 Kangaroos secured a 12 A grading for 2008 after finishing 5th position in a very competitive group.

The 12 A squad were denied the winners flag after drawing 1 - 1 with Richmond in their final game. The team had been leading the 12 A ladder for most of the season but miss out by 1 point and finish runners-up to South Melbourne. The 12 B squad were disappointed to finish in 8th position after falling away in form during the second half of the season. The 12 Girls finished in good spririts with a win against Hoppers Crossing. This is the girls first year of junior competition.

The U13 Super League fininshed with a away loss to Richmond, but have secured a U14 Super League position for 2007. The team has been set back with injuries during the last 6 weeks and has seen it struggle to keep its mid season form.. The U14 Super League also finished with an away defeat against Knox City, but had already secured runners-up position three weeks earlier. The team has similarly suffered loss of players through injury for the second half of the season but managed to keep on the heels of winners Mornington.

The U13s and U14s will be combing together for the next 3 weeks to play in the NTC Cup at the Darebin International Sports Centre. The Cup is for the top U14 Super League teams in the SE and NW together with the NTC Womens Squad. The Monash squad will play 3 rounds and a reasonable performance might be rewarded with a semi-final placing.

Junior Coaches required for 2008

Monash City Soccer Club is seeking application for junior coaches for our 2008 program. The objective of the football component of our Club is to provide opportunities to junior players to advance their technical and decision making skills so they can play at the highest level that their individual abilities will allow them to achieve.

The Club is fully equipped with all football training aids, portable goals and fully illuminated ground that is available all year (pending any Council drought restrictions). The training complex includes an indoor football center to facilitate all year training and this can be booked for use on weekends and available weeknights.

Age Groups

We are seeking applications for the following age groups:

Boys
? U11 Kangaroos
? U12 A League
? U13 Super League
? U13 A or B League
? U14 Super League

Girls
? U12/13 Girls League

Coaching and Player Development Philosophy

Monash City is committed to developing players to meet contemporary international trends in player competencies, playing styles and philosophies. Coaches should follow the Monash City curriculum for player development for each age group. In short, players must be coached to enhance their first touch, skill and speed so they are able to play as fluidly as possible. Quick feet, turning and dribbling skills should be routinely rehearsed through various 1 v 1, 2 v 1, 2 v 2, 3 v 2 and 5 v 3 scenarios.

Coaches are expected to teach players how to execute confident quick short passing under pressure to maintain possession and build attacking play, develop confidence to play the ball to feet from defensive areas, play intelligently in tight situations, and execute fast combination play. Coaches should encourage fast counter-attacking as play dictates, and should teach players how to play triangles/wall passes through compact defences, and how to combine in wide areas and execute various angled crossing balls (low and high).

Players should also be instructed in individual defensive skills and timing, and team principles of first, second and third defender, balancing and concentration in defence. The degree of complexity and tactical expectations will be age-group dependent.

Coaching Schedule

Successful coaches are expected to conduct at least one skills session per week from week beginning Monday 29 October to week ending Friday 21 December to initiate team building with players. Trials and regular season training will commence week beginning Monday 28 January 2008. From this date,

U11, U12s and U12/13 Girls will train Wednesday evenings with choice of either Monday or Friday as second night.

U13, U14 and U15s will train Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Monash City Champion Football Academy

Coaches should be aware that motivated players from U11s to U15s will have option of participating in extra coaching session(s) within the Club's 2008 academy program. For junior players this involves sessions on Saturdays and another weeknight (to be determined).

Coaching qualifications

The Club supports all coaches in acquiring coaching licenses. All coaches must complete the FFA Junior License, followed by the FFA Youth License.

It is desirable that coaches of Super League level players (U13 - U18) have attained the FFA Senior License or be willing to undertake the course.

Coaching Allowance

A reasonable coaching allowance to cover your expenses is provided. Level is dependent on experience and qualifications.

Working with Children - Basic Police Checks

From 2008 it is legal requirement all coaches and managers working with children complete a basic police check.

Coaches should fill out the electronic application proforma and attach curriculum vitae and any other relevant information. Applications should be emailed if possible to Laurie Ferns (Director of Coaching) at ferns200@bigpond.net.au. Telephone 0425 729 358 for initial enquires.
