U12A and U13 SL Squads Complete Tour of Adelaide 2006
The U12A and U13 Super League (SL) squads travelled to Adelaide to play Adelaide City and Campbelltown City on a weekend day tour (17 - 20 March 2006). The teams travelled in hired buses and stayed at Adelaide City's visiting sports team accommodation at Rams Park. On Friday evening, both squads were fortunate to train adjacent to the Adelaide City senior squads coached by Perth Glory striker Damian Mori.
On Saturday morning the teams played Adelaide City. The 12As only had 12 of their regular squad attending the trip. They played well in the first half and had their Adelaide counter-parts held at 1-1 but eventually lost 5-1 after tiring in the second period. The U13s took on the squad which reached the semi final of the 2005 Kanga Cup and grinded out a narrow 2-1 victory. Both teams attended the Adelaide City Aquatic Centre on Saturday afternoon for recovery and recreation.
On Sunday morning both teams travelled to the impressive home ground of Campbelltown City. The U12s were unlucky to lose 2-0 after dominating much of the game. The U13s finished off their counter-parts in the first half scoring 4 goals in the last 12 minutes of the half, eventually taking the game 5-1. The squads were rushed back to their accommodation and were given ice-baths to prepare them for their 'return-leg' afternoon games with Adelaide City.
All sides involved in the afternoon games were surprisingly quick and energetic considering all the weekend games and activities. For the games, the 12A squad fought hard and held the impressive Adelaide to a 1-1 draw. The U13s played very well and defeated the Adelaide U13s 3-2 after dominating much of the second half.
Overall a terrific fun weekend and great football for all the players and parents that came to support. The players did exceptional considering the 10 hour travel time and loss of regular sleep patterns with all fun and games during the evening time. Adelaide City were wonderful hosts and put on a tasty pasta diner for both clubs on Sunday evening.
The next event is the Kanga Cup in Canberra during July 2006.
