Title

Saturday, 4th August, 2007 v Whitehorse Away 1-3 Loss

A chance for the boys to redeem themselves from a heavy loss earlier in the season to Whitehorse.  It was a closely fought out game all day with Whitehorse edging ahead in the second half before sealing it just before the end with the help of another own goal by our boys.  On the balance of play a draw would have been a fitting result but Whitehorse were able to take the chances that they were given.  A great performance by our guest centre back Nick who was ably assisted by Jack and Dillon in defence.

Saturday, 28th July, 2007 v Eastern Lions Home 1-3 Loss

The boys received a reality check after the previous week's opposition.  The Eastern Lions were an extremely large team who were well skilled and coached as demonstrated by the 8-0 drubbing they gave the boys earlier in the season.  On a positive note the boys were not intimidated by their opposition and tried hard all day.  In an evenly fought contest the Lions took the lead midway through the first half when some strong calling by our central defender went unheeded and resulted in the ball spilling to a Lion's forward who took the ball a third of the field uncontested and finished well.  The team lifted and earned a corner which was played in nicely by Nicholas finding an opponent's head and forcing an own goal.  1-1 at half time.  Early in the second half the boys conceded antoher cheap goal before the Lions finished off some good play to seal a 3-1 win.  Notable players this week were George who made some good save in goals and Thomas P for some excellent defensive work.

Saturday, 21st July, 2007 V Mooroolbark Away Result 11-0 Win

An extreme mismatch in skill levels saw the boys have their most emphatic win of the season.  All played well and generally kept position despite the temptation to push forward in numbers.  Some nice play across the backline as they switched play to go around thr rolling mass of the opposition.  However the boys will need to sharpen up for this week's opposition to atone for their earlier loss in the season.  With the boys finding confidence in their ability and not being overawed by the larger bodies this weeks game should be a good one.

Saturday, 14th July, 2007 V Bulleen Away Result 3-2 Win

The game was played on the back paddock of the Veneto Social Club in heavy conditions but the boys played like the conditions were excellent.  Again we started the game solidly and were creating all of the chances.  Within 0 minutes it was 1-1 as an Andrew goal was offset by a Bullen goal that came against the run of play.  A nice build up between Jake and George got the ball to Tom W who controlled it well and laid off a good pass to Thomas P who duly finished the job.  2-1 at half time.  At the beginning of the second half the boys lost their way a bit and lost the flow of the game.  Bulleen had too much possession and snatched a goal back.  The boys refocused and started to move the ball quickly again and putting Bulleen under pressure.  This pressure led to another Andrew goal.  After retaking the lead the boys continued their attack and probably could have got another couple but let themselves down in front of goals by forgetting the simple things and trying to do too much.  Overall another great team effort with all the boys contributing well.

Saturday, 7th July, 2007 V Doncaster Rovers at Home Result 1-1

Yet another day where the team played really well but could not clinch the victory.  Great performances by George who played in the outfield all day and competed hard all day, Jeremy who used the ball very well, Nic our guest player who distributed the ball well from defence, and Andrew our midfield engine and goal scorer.

Saturday, 30th June, 2007 V Knox Utd at Home Result 3-3

Another strong start by the boys with constant pressure being exerted on the Knox defense through clean passing and great positional play.  However today the boys finally got reward for their efforts as a corner kick was deflected into the Knox goal by one of their own defenders (it was nice to get an own goal go our way for a change).  This was quickly followed by a nicely taken goal to Tom W - his first in the regular season.  2-0 and things were looking good.  Shortly afterwards Knox got a goal back with a clinical finish that just got past George's desperate attempt to save.  This was quickly followed by another goal and we were 2-2 at the break.  After the break our midfield continued to work hard led by Thomas P and Andrew.  The defense led by Tom continued to easily repel the Knox attack.  However after about 10 minute Knox managed to take the lead against the run of play.  The boys did not drop their heads and continued to work hard which resulted in a good goal to Andrew.  The last five minutes was fast and furious with the boys determined to win back the lead but to no avail.  Another fine performance as the boys continue to improve.  A special mention for Damian this week for his tackling and all round attack on the ball.

Saturday, 23rd June, 2007 V Croydon City Arrows Away Result 3-2 Win

A cold and damp day for the spectators but the boys were not discouraged in their attempt to capitalise on their recent good form and finally get a win.  In the first ten minutes the boys were on fire with several good opportunities that they were unable to put away.  Against the run of play Croydon won a corner which was cleared out of the penalty box to a Coydon player who lofted the ball over our keeper. One-Nil Down was quickly two-nil down as another corner was deflected into the goals by one of our defenders.  We had managed to score three own goals in the space of two weeks.  It was starting to look like the previous weeks where we dominated and the opponents gt cheap goals against the run of play.  Finally, just before the half-time break we had our own piece of luck when the opposition keeper's goal kick went straight to Andrew who steadied and drilled a lovely goal.  Two-one down at the break and the boys were determined to get the lead.  About ten minutes into the second half our pressure started to take its toll on Croydon as a goal mouth scramble was finalyended with Jack putting away a loose ball.  Two-all!  Croydon came fighting back and our defence worked overtime.  Jeremy and guest player Caleb fought valiantly, Dillon made a couple of match saving tackles, and Antonio was the rock of our defence with some strong tackles and good clearances.  Our boys lifted again and after some more attacks won another corner.  The corner was taken and went straight through to Jake about 5 metres out from the back post who calmly volleyed the winner.  What a come-back - all of the boys should be very proud of their efforts.

Saturday, 16th June V Bulleen at home Result 1-3 Loss

Another great game by the boys as they played all over Bulleen.  The skill level and passing shone through in the ften minutes before Bulleen scored a goal against the run of play through a monstrous clearance by their giant goalkeeper.  This was followed up not long after by an own goal from our team that sent us to the break at 0-2 down.  The boys reestablished their all round dominance during the second half and were rewarded with a great goal by Andrew.  Just as we looked like staging a great comeback we conceded another own goal and despite the valiant efforts of the team to bridge the gap they could not find the back of the net.  The honourable mentoins this week go to Tom who held up many Bulleen attacks in the middle of defence and used the ball well when he won it, Brandon who showed some great form in the goals in the second half, and Jack who continued to compete hard all day even after catching an elbow to the face.

Saturday, 9th June V Ashburton   Result 2-2

Fantastic game from all the boys after a couple of hard losses.  The first half was exceptionally good with the boys passing the ball around like seasoned professionals to take a 2-1 lead to the break.  We tired a bit in the second half and lost a little bit of the fluidity in our passing game but the boys battled hard.  Honourable mentoins this week to George for a rock solid performance in goals, Jake for some dashing runs and crosses from the left wing, and Nicky for some great midfield passing.  A special thank you to Alex and Tom for helping the team out on the day.
